How to find the optimal image size for best view?

The optimal image size is relative to what your commonly used viewing platform. If you or your customers are using PC to view eventON calendar then the perfect image width should be that of the website content area.

If your viewers look at your calendar on mobile then you can use lower resolution image around 600px width.

The best way to determine the best image size is to see how wide the calendar look in your website – if your website maxium width is 1000px and calendar is only 700px width on the page then you can use 700px width images for event images.

If you are using tile view, the image size depend on how many times you have in a row and how wide the tile is in pixels. And also on the fact whether these events are going to be shown using single event addon for fullwidth event page.

Bottom line is there is NO optimal value for event featured image. The optimal size for image depend on your use of calendar and how wide the image looks. And whether you want to load maximum page width image at all times.

1.0 Method #1: Via auto-update

In order to get auto updates, you must activate your EventON copy in your website.

How to get new auto updates for eventON.

Go to Dashboard > Updates and click Check Again to run plugin update checker.

Go to Plugins> Installed Plugins if there is a new eventON update you should see it under the EventON plugin row.

Click Update Now to perform auto update.

2.0 Method #2: Manual Download from myeventon.com

Go to myeventon.com and sign into your account. Then head over to My Account. From left side menu select Downloads. From available downloads, click the .zip file under download column.

2.1 – FTP Way

Go into your FTP Client and navigate to ../wp-content/plugins/ folder in your website

Delete all the files inside EventON folder and replace with new files from the latest zip file you downloaded

Go to wp-admin Plugins> Installed Plugins and make sure the new version is updated on the site.

NOTE: You will NOT lose any saved settings by updating this way. As for styles and appearances, after updating via FTP go to myeventon settings and click save changes without making any changes to re-save styles and appearances. However we strongly advice, backing up database (in phpMyAdmin) and backing up and translation files inside /lang folder.

2.2 – Back-end Way

In order to install new EventON version from backend please follow these steps.

IMPORTANT! Before doing this: We highly recommend you backup phpmyadmin database and your website files in wp-content folder.

First, go into EventON settings and make sure “Delete eventon settings & data when EventON is uninstalled” is Deselected and then Save Changes.

WARNING! – When updating from EventON version 2.6.6 & 2.6.7 you must leave the above settings to NO (due to code error)! – If you are on EventON v2.6.8 or up (until 4+) this setting must be set to YES in order to keep already created events. From 4.0 you need to set this option to YES only if you want to delete EventON Settings and Events.

Next go to Plugins > Installed Plugins and Deactivate EventON. If you have EventON addons you will see EventON missing notifications popping up. At this moment, you can ignore these notifications.

Next Delete EventON from your site.

Once EventON is deleted, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin and upload the downloaded EventON version zip file

Once uploaded, go back to Plugins > Installed Plugins and activate EventON.

Go to Plugins > Add New (in your WordPress admin area) and then select Upload

Next, select the zip file you downloaded from myeventon.com and click Install Now

Your new eventon addon should now be installed and good to go.

Install addon on Mac

In Safari go to Preferences > General and un-check “Open “safe” files after downloading “safe” files…

This will make sure that the addon is downloaded as a zip file and it is not automatically unzipped.

Once you have done this, download the addon zip file from My Account and follow the above instructions to install the addon into WordPress site.

Go to my account downloads in your my eventon account and in there you should see latest versions of your purchased addons available for download.

1.0 How to install update from backend

Go to  wp-admin Plugins > Installed Plugins and deactivate the old version of the addon.

Now go to  Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin and upload the downloaded addon zip file.

WordPress may ask to replace the existing old version with new version of the addon. if so click “Replace current with uploaded”

Once uploaded, activate the plugin within wordpress.

2.0 How to install new version of Addon files (Manually via FTP)

The best way to install updates for addons is via FTP. This way, you will not need to deactivate or activate addon plugins.

Step 1: Backup your website and old version of the addon files

Step 2: Go into your FTP client and to wp-content/plugins folder and find the addon folder. Eg. ../wp-content/plugins/eventon-rsvp/

Step 3: Delete all the files inside this folder and replace with new files from the new version of the addon zip file.

Step 4: Go to wp-admin Plugins> Installed Plugins and make sure the update works.

The other method is to deactivate the addon from Plugins > Installed Plugins and delete the plugin and install new version and activate.

NOTE (warning):  you may lose all the settings stored under eventON for that specific addon with this method. 

If you are moving the addons to another website, first and foremost, be sure to deactivate your license on old website before deleting the plugin.
