If you’re experiencing issues with the latest version of EventON (e.g., compatibility problems with your theme or other plugins), reverting to an older version can be a temporary solution while troubleshooting. We always recommend using the most recent version for security, performance, and new features, but this guide provides safe steps to downgrade. Reverting involves restoring from a backup or requesting an older version from support.

Important Warning: Downgrading can lead to data loss if not done carefully—always back up your site first. Older versions may lack bug fixes or compatibility with current WordPress. Contact support before downgrading to confirm if it’s necessary.

Prerequisites:

Full site backup (database and files) using tools like UpdraftPlus, BackWPup, or your host’s backup system.

WordPress admin access and FTP credentials (if manual method).

EventON license key for reactivation.

Knowledge of your current EventON version (check via Plugins > Installed Plugins).

For general setup help, see our Quick Starter Guide. If you’re new to EventON, start with the Installation Guide.

Method 1: Restore from a Backup (Recommended if Available)

If you backed up your site before updating EventON, this is the fastest and safest way to revert.

Access Your Backup:

Log in to your backup plugin (e.g., UpdraftPlus) or host’s control panel.

Select a backup from before the EventON update (check dates and notes).

Restore the Site:

Choose to restore plugins and database (EventON data is stored here).

Follow the restore instructions from your webhost—exclude unrelated files if possible to speed up.

Confirm the restore; your site may go into maintenance mode briefly.

Verify the Revert:

Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins and check the EventON version.

Test your calendars and events to ensure everything works.

Tip: Always create a new backup before restoring. If using a host like SiteGround, use their built-in staging tools to test the revert without affecting your live site.

Note: This method reverts your entire site, not just EventON. If you only need to downgrade the plugin, use Method 2.

Method 2: Manually Downgrade EventON (Request Older Version from Support)

If you don’t have a pre-update backup, request an older version from our support team and install it manually.

Request the Older Version:

Email support at support@myeventon.com or submit a ticket with:

Your license key.

The specific version you want (e.g., “EventON 4.5.2”).

A brief reason for the request (helps us assist better).

We’ll send you a link to download ZIP file (e.g., eventon-4.5.2.zip) via email or in the ticket, usually within 24-48 hours.

Disable “Delete eventon settings & data when EventON is uninstalled”

In EventON Settings > General make sure this option is Off — otherwise all your eventON data will be deleted when eventON is deactivated.

Deactivate and Remove Current Version:

In WordPress, go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.

Deactivate EventON (this preserves your data).

Click Delete—confirm, but note: This removes files, not database data (events, settings).

Upload and Install the Older Version:

Use the automatic method (preferred):

Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.

Select the older ZIP file and click Install Now.

Or manual (via FTP):

Unzip the file to get the eventon folder.

Upload to wp-content/plugins/ via FTP (overwrite if needed).

Activate the plugin.

Reactivate Your License:

Go to EventON > License, enter your key & email, and activate.

Warning: Downgrading without a backup risks data incompatibility (e.g., new features in database). Test on a staging site first. If events disappear, restore from backup.

Step 3: Verify and Test the Reverted Version

Check the version in Plugins > Installed Plugins.

Visit EventON > Settings to confirm options load.

Test frontend: View a calendar page (e.g., via [add_eventon]) and check events display correctly.

Clear cache (browser and plugins like WP Rocket) to see changes.

If issues persist, it may not be version-related—see All Events Not Showing.

Troubleshooting

Activation Fails? Ensure your license is valid for the version—contact support.

Data Loss? Restore from backup immediately. Older versions may not support new data structures.

Conflicts? Deactivate other plugins one by one to isolate issues.

No Email Response? Check spam folder or use the ticket system for faster tracking.

Next Steps

Once stable:

Update Safely: When ready, update to the latest via Plugins > Installed Plugins. See Installation Guide for tips.

Create Events: Add new ones with How to Add and Publish Events.

Customize Calendars: Explore views in Calendar Display Types.

Add Features: Use the Shortcode Generator or add locations with How to Add Locations to Events.

We recommend staying updated—older versions miss security patches. For personalized help, submit a support ticket or browse our Documentations.

EventON 5.0 introduces native FAQs for events, allowing you to add collapsible question-and-answer sections directly to your event details. This feature helps provide quick info to attendees without cluttering the event description. FAQs can be created new, reused from other events, and even generated with AI assistance.

Key Benefits:

Reuse FAQs across events to save time.

Integrate seamlessly into the event card layout.

AI-powered suggestions for faster creation (available in EventON Full version).

Prerequisites:

EventON plugin version 5.0 or later.

WordPress admin access.

For AI features: EventON Full version with AI enabled in settings (go to EventON > Settings > AI Assist).

If you’re new to EventON, check our Installation Guide first.

Step 1: Accessing FAQs in the Event Edit Page

Navigate to your WordPress dashboard and open the event you want to edit (Events > All Events > Edit).

In the Main Event Details section, scroll to the FAQs tab.

From here, you can add new FAQs or select existing ones.

“Tip: FAQs are stored globally, so reusing them promotes consistency across your site.”

Step 2: Adding a New FAQ

Click Add New to open the lightbox form.

Enter the Question (e.g., “What is the dress code?”).

Enter the Answer (supports rich text, links, and basic formatting like bold or lists).

Click Save to add it to the event.

This creates a reusable FAQ that can be selected in future events.

Step 3: Selecting and Reusing Existing FAQs

If you’ve added FAQs to other events, reuse them to avoid duplication:

In the FAQs tab, click Select Existing FAQs.

Search or browse the list of saved FAQs from all events.

Check the boxes for the ones you want and click Add Selected.

Editing Reused FAQs: After selecting, you can edit the question or answer inline.

“Warning: Changes to a reused FAQ update it everywhere it’s used. If you edit the question text, it creates a new FAQ entry to prevent breaking links.”

This is ideal for common questions like parking info or COVID policies.

Step 4: Displaying FAQs on the Event Card

By default, FAQs won’t appear until you add them to the layout:

Go to EventON > Settings > EventCard > EventCard Designer.

Drag the FAQ data field into your desired position in the event card layout (e.g., below the description).

Save changes.

Learn more in our EventCard Designer Guide.

How FAQs Appear on the Frontend

Once saved, FAQs show as an accordion on the event page, single event lightbox, or calendar view:

Styling matches your theme, with options for customization via CSS.

The first FAQ is expanded by default.

Users click questions to expand/collapse others.

Using AI Assist to Generate FAQs

EventON 5.0 includes AI-powered suggestions to speed up creation:

Enable AI in EventON > Settings > Third Party APIs > OpenAI (included in Full version; requires an API key if needed).

Back in the event edit page, bottom right corner, find the AI Assist button. — AI features on eventON

The AI uses the event’s title and description to suggest set number of FAQs.

Review and add the suggestions with one click.

“Note: AI suggestions are based on OpenAI —review for accuracy and privacy. Disable if not needed to save resources.”

Troubleshooting and Tips

FAQs not showing? Double-check the event card layout and clear cache (e.g., via WP Rocket or browser).

Too many FAQs? Limit to 5-7 per event for best UX.

Common Issues: If reuse fails, ensure no plugin conflicts (test by disabling others).
